Welcome to Shodokan Aikido Island Bay
|
Our club is located right on the beach with one of the best views in the world from a dojo - yet it is easily accessible from the centre of the capital city of New Zealand, Wellington.
Our base at the Marine Education Centre is a popular location for many community activities and we have been training here since 1998.
Aikido is a great way to keep fit, learn some practical self-defense and improve self-confidence. The lessons from the training spill over into your daily life making it one of the most beneficial sports you can take up on many levels.
Shodokan Aikido is a competitive form of aikido so you have the chance to participate in competitions if this is of interest to you. However, they are not compulsory. You will still be able to learn the principles of timing, distance, etc and a little of the intensity of competitive practice during normal lessons.
Please take a few minutes to look around our web site and learn a little about aikido and our club. If you are interested in attending a practice session please come along to watch or, as we would prefer, participate. Your first lesson is free.
News
Just back from a successful visit to the new satellite Hombu dojo in Brisbane where we had the honour to train with Nariyama Shihan and Sakai Sensei. Great to see all of our mates from Shodokan in Australasia and make some new acquaintances. Check out our FaceBook site for photos.
We also recently held a clothes swap fundraiser and raised $275. These proceeds will go towards buying more copies of the new text book "Aikido Randori" by Nariyama Shihan for our students.
